The United States Congress provided for those soldiers who served with the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War and who applied to the Revolutionary War Pension. Those soldiers who were denied could then apply under another Revolutionary War pension act. If the pension was approved but the veteran died before the pension amount allotted him expired, his spouse or his children could apply for the remaining benefits based on his military service (from Suzanne Gould, A Monroe Freeman. Final Revolutionary War pension payment vouchers: Georgia).
