Jared Irwin was a Revolutionary War general, a member of the Georgia legislature, commissioner of several Native American treaties, and twice governor of Georgia, 1796-1798 and 1806-1809, the second term while serving as president of the Georgia Senate.

This collection consists of letters from Jared Irwin to Elijah Clark, officials of the Georgia State legislature, and an unnamed military person, about military and state matters. There is also a letter from John Scott to Jared Irwin about military matters.

Copy. Orders concerning stationing of soldiers at various locations.
Copy. Gives Clarke and his people permission to cross the river unbothered.
Copy. Repeats promise that Clark may cross river unbothered and promises to march with a force down the river to await Clark's landing in safety.
Scott tells Irwin several attempts have been made to set Louisville on fire and requests aid of militia.
Irwin is sending to the Legislature several enclosures with this letter which list government expenditures, executive appointments, and matters which require legislative deliberation (all enclosures missing). Also talks about creating a new office for tax official, failure of a proposed treaty with the native Americans, Savannah fire, need for a standing guard to protect officials in Louisville.
