This collection contains a typed transcription of the 1865 diary of Robert Armstrong while he was serving in the Indiana Volunteer Infantry. Within this diary, Armstrong related the events that took place towards the end of the Civil War as his troop was leaving Savannah, Georgia and advancing north. He mentioned his troop being reviewed by Gen. Sherman and later Gen. Grant, the assassination of President Lincoln, and the capture of Jefferson Davis. This transcription also includes the transcriber's comments on the events described in the diary and the physical conditions of the original diary.
