Biography/Profile
Joseph Dunbar Shields, Jr. (1842-1864), known as Dunbar, was born at the Hermitage in Adams County, Mississippi. His parents were Joseph Dunbar Shields and Elizabeth Fitzhugh Conway. He was enlisted as a private in the Adams Troop of Natchez and served in Mississippi, Tennessee and Virginia before being killed at Culpepper, Virginia in 1864.
