Letters were sent from various locations including Savannah, Georgia, area camps at Fort Pulaski, Causton's Bluff, Thunderbolt, Camp Mercer (Tybee Island), and Camp Wilson; Camp Gist, Camp Holmes, and Camp Clingman near Wilmington, North Carolina; and Charleston, South Carolina. Other locations include Chickamauga River, Lookout Mountain, the front lines of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and various places in Mississippi.
Other papers include Confederate States Army correspondence, orders, personnel and supply records, and evacuation and return documents. Included are four Confederate imprints, one of them unique. There are also deeds to property, insurance policies on dwellings, bills of sale for slaves, and a few papers concerning Wilson's legal affairs.
