In 1824, the first book of the Bible, the Gospel according to John, was translated into Cherokee using the alphabet developed by Sequoyah. In 1825, David Brown, a full-blooded Cherokee, translated the rest of the New Testament into Cherokee.
Scope and Content
This collection contains a duodecimo (one sheet with 12 leaves), which forms pages 73-96 of a Cherokee Bible. It is printed in the Cherokee language. The pages are uncut, and it is unknown which section of the Bible these pages come from. The date of this item is also unknown.
